Annual General Meeting Committee

Committee Chair: Anthony Cahalan

Description:

The Annual General Meeting, held in late January, swears in the new board and executive members, reviews finances, and outlines the Transportation Club of Detroit's goals for the year. Key tasks include reviewing scholarship applications, selecting recipients, and supporting the annual meeting. Additional responsibilities may involve collaborating with school program administrators, visiting schools to promote the TCD, and conducting marketing efforts to raise awareness.

Meeting Schedule:

There will be several calls throughout the year and weekly (generally on Fridays) within the three months leading up to the event in late January.

 

Campus Outreach

Committee Chair: OPEN!!

Members:

Description:

The Campus Outreach Committee connects with the TCDSF’s approved colleges and universities to ensure program directors and professors have the necessary resources to promote the TCD Scholarship Fund and encourage as many students as possible to apply between April 1 and June 1.

Meeting Schedule: Members meet monthly to coordinate outreach efforts and may shift to a biweekly schedule as the fall semester approaches.


Compliance Committee

Committee Chair: Michelle La Von-Paddock

Members:

Description: The Compliance Committee ensures that the Transportation Club of Detroit (501c6) and the TCD Scholarship Fund (501c3) adhere to their respective bylaws and regulatory requirements. Members review and maintain compliance records, recommend updates to governing documents, and guide the organization in meeting nonprofit standards and ethical practices.

Golf Outings Committee (June & September)

Committee Chair: Jim Kosak

Members: Amy Milligan, Nick Roth, Eric Thornton

Description:

The Golf Committee organizes two annual golf outings, handling tasks such as selecting the golf course, planning food and drinks, coordinating with the venue, preparing a budget, securing raffle donations, and managing event-day operations.

Meeting Schedule:

Meetings begin bi-weekly in February and transition to weekly as the events approach.

 

Happy Hours Committee

Committee Chair: Joann Yatooma

Members:

Description: ​​The Happy Hour Committee organizes casual after-work gatherings to encourage networking and camaraderie among TCD members and prospective members. Responsibilities include choosing venues and promoting events that offer a relaxed environment for attendees to connect and engage.

The Membership Committee develops processes to recruit, retain, and engage members, ensuring everyone enjoys the club's benefits. We collaborate with Reihl staff to streamline new registrations and renewals, fostering a smooth onboarding and retention experience.

National Transportation Week Committee

Committee Chair: OPEN!!

Members:

Description: The National Transportation Week Committee plans and coordinates TCD’s May celebrations and activities, highlighting the critical role of transportation in our daily lives. Members brainstorm event ideas, arrange logistics, and promote engagement among TCD members and the broader public. By creating educational opportunities and providing industry recognition, the committee helps raise awareness and enthusiasm for the transportation field.

Scholarship Awards Gala Committee

Members: Deborah Newton, Mary Leddy, Lauren Luthy

Description:

The Scholarship Award Gala committee is responsible for planning and executing this prestigious event. Duties include selecting a keynote speaker, choosing the menu, coordinating with the venue, preparing the budget, organizing decorations, and creating event materials such as slideshows and signage. The committee works collaboratively to ensure a memorable and seamless experience for attendees.

Meeting Schedule:

The committee meets monthly starting in May, biweekly starting in July, and weekly starting in August until the event.

 

Scholarship Fund Committee

Committee Chair: Angelo Matera

Members:

Description:

The Scholarship Fund Committee reviews applications and selects the most qualified candidates for scholarship awards. Attendance at the annual meeting is strongly encouraged. Additional responsibilities may include collaborating with school program administrators, visiting schools to promote TCD, and conducting marketing efforts to raise program awareness.

Meeting Schedule:

The time commitment includes several calls throughout the year, plus a few hours to review applications and submit votes.


Tiger Game Committee

Committee Chair: Vince Cardiel

Members:

Description:

The committee will meet to develop marketing strategies to promote the annual Tigers Game event, engaging TCD members and followers to boost attendance.

Meeting Schedule:

Meets biweekly starting three months before the event, then weekly during the month of the game.

 

Toys for Tots Committee

Committee Chair: Rebecca Elser

Members:

Description:

Organize the Annual Toys for Tots event by securing an optimal venue, negotiating the best quality and value for the menu, and promoting the event to encourage attendance from members and non-members alike.

Meeting Schedule:

Meets monthly starting in Q3, then weekly during the final 5–6 weeks before the event.

 

Website Committee

Description:

TCD's Website Committee manages the website's maintenance, updates, and ongoing improvement. The committee ensures the website is engaging, user-friendly, and effectively communicates TCD's mission, events, and resources.
